Here's my incredibly brief two-cents. Let's make some good topics, communicate more, game more, and really take hold of this oppurtunity of our own forum.

If every one of us made one, good, interesting topic per day...I shudder to think!

Hey guess what Ninja? You have said pretty much what I said and am going to say lol

Well yeah, A point I want to stress on is totally senseless topics. I miss the days where I can go into the GSF board and reply to 6-10 of the different threads.

Now, even with so many different boards given to us, I only reply to at most 3 topics, which are:
1) This endless debate about GSF.
2) The SWG thread in the games section.
3) Some random thread.

I mean, what is this? From having great fun posts to reply too I only get one or two which are worth replying? This board seems to be my rant board, I rant, people sympathize, but nothing is done, at least not that I can see.

What happened to the bunch of people who are really fun to be with? They left. Now, there are only a handful of really good people in GSF, I am real sorry to say, out of the sea of GSF members.

Did you guys actually check the number of GSF members there are recently? You should, cause I feel the number is rediculous, and I only know 10% of all of them, maybe it's due to that extended period of absence, but that's besides the point. The point is, why do I know so few people? Lots of people request my permission to add me to their ICQ list, I know, and like, 75% of them I do not even know existed.

But enough ranting for me, I have said what I wanted to say before, and I am not going to say it again. If anything, check out the topic Whoa. For my full views. And, if you want to see where I am kinda active at, it is at the game's section, which, I believe should replace The Hub since at least visitors who visit us will think that GSF is a gaming clan and not one who discusses stuff that need not be discussed in the first place.

Meh.
Its probably unlikely that what ever direction GSF is taking can be stopped/reverted.

Im just glad that I can place my self over here in this corner *here*
and not care.
But from ancient experience came realisation for me that it was futile to try and halt corrosion.
Nature/God made sure that everything living will rot to feed the cycle of life its self.

Thank you all for your input so far, this is going better than I had expected.

Good to see you again Some1. I'm not sure what the disbanding of [GSF] would "feed", except to release its members to pursue other exploits. It is true that sometime, somehow, the clan will cease to exist. But I also believe that we can prolong the life of [GSF] and make it a better place to be.

I didnt mention disbanding or even comment on what ever is going on with GSF.

Im just saying that its probably not worth your energy to try and make people more considerate of other people.
You will just deteriorate your own remaining experience with the group doing so.
take the group for what it is for good and bad. The question is just how you judge the ratio of good to bad within group.

First off, I want to thank the Gods above for this forum. The regular GSF forums just suck so much right now.

Secondly, I know I'm not in the clan, but I have been around for...maybe two years (A year and a half today, I just checked) or so (I was here before FG!), and I know the ins and outs pretty well. I caught the end of the Golden Era, much like Dr. Sarcasm did, and boy, was that a great time.

What we all must realize is that all great things come to an end. However, so do bad things. Much like the Earth will periodically go in and out of Ice Ages, the forums will go in and out of Shit Ages.

So, to all you lily faced pansies that quit when shit gets rough (and I mean no disrespect, I've liked pretty much all of you): Buck up or shut up. Just stick it out, the forums will get better. School's starting soon (or has already started for some), so people will become preoccupied with other projects.

Don't let the funny die, but don't let the intelligence die either. I admit Archy-brand funny is damn funny, but so is that other kind of funny, the kind that takes more effort (unless it just comes naturally) and intelligence (not saying Archy or people who use Archy-brand humor are dumb, heh heh - shit, I do it too)

I guess my post wasn't really explaining what I want out of the clan/forums/whatnot but more about what people must do. I like where the clan/forums/whatnot is right now, can't say I'm fond of where it's headed if it stays on the same track, but it doesn't take much to please me as I am a simple man.

Just remember, change is good and all regimes come to an end eventually. So, if [GSF] does indeed fall out (psshaw), I'm sure an even greater [GSF] will rise above. Damn, this came out a lot longer than I thought it would.

That's pretty much exactly what I've been thinking. Only I hope the forums shit ages happen more frequently that ice ones wink

The clan, yayzor! When I got to the Gamespy boards a year ago today, and after my first forray into spamdom in the Gaming Discussion, I wandered over into the Lobby. There I found a permanant residence where discussions were heated, and the topics weren't about Alpha's latest project, or gamegeeks newest useless poll. I took the time to post and make friends with a bunch of [GSF] members, mostly the ones that played games. H00ty and I played UT2k3 every night after work that summer, and soon I was playing with what felt like a ton of memebers, I was collecting ICQ numbers and things were good.

Then certain members, only a few months younger than me showed up and started to really make me mad, I mean I can remember a particular incident with AO that cemented my dislike for him, and all posters like him. Its a damn good thing I dont have a ban button becuase I guarantee that certain forumers wouldn't be with us today. After that I took a break, went back and did my 6 month thing at school, and about halfway through with that I got back into the posting and IRC whoring again through the new GSF forum.

Blah blah blah, the same people at the lobby piss me off, and I come up with new and clevar ways to flame them, or I just ignore that they even exist.

Even so I have had some amazing times with awesome regs, and [GSF] members a like, playing games like UT2k3, BF1942, WC3... anything, you name it I play it. My dedication to gaming is what brought me here in the first place.

Now that I have been around a while I am comfortable with what the clan used to be, and still is now. The clan, [GSF] is a group of people who make the community at the Gamespy Forums a better place to post. They are regular faces that make you frown with frustration at some serious opinions, make you laugh till you cry with some great short stories, or can spam you to death with hilarious 5 word posts, and some good post quote editing.

I come here day after day to get my fill of intelectual stimulation from Nitro's political topics, and to get my funny on with Quizical's latest story, or to laugh my ass of at the latest photoshop rendering of hilarity.

What I would like to see more of, is more Clan gaming or just gaming in general, the Gunbound and Star Wars Galaxies crazes right now are awesome. Older members always talk about the days of Tribes 2. That was before my time but if someone wants to play a game, jeebus post it, or get on IRC or ICQ and send me a message, there are 8 ways to Sunday you get a hold of me, AIM, ICQ, MSN, Yahoo, IRC, the forums. I have said it before and I'll say it again, I will play any game that people want. If I dont have the game I'll buy it the next day. If there is a ton of interest I'll even organize the thing and get a game hosted somewhere.

There really are only a few things that I really dont like and none of them have anything to do with the clan, and have everything to do with people who suck at life.

So the long and the short of it is, more gaming, come out and play with me, becuase gaming is what I do best.

My few cents:

I am one of the oldbie's to an extent...I joined [GSF] mere weeks after it's conception.

Those were undoubtedly the best Internet times I ever had.

A few things I notice now is obviously the spam, the overblown use of one word replies that serve no purpose, and the drama. Obviously early [GSF] had some drama, but not this much. People just wouldn't do that. It wasn't amusing to us. It still doesn't really amuse me now, except for the one time I found a site that didn't have double-post protection and decided to use the forums as a mouse-click speed detector thingie. But that didn't last more than a few hours. But I'm not a repeat offender or anything.

Anyways...[GSF] is a forum clan, YES, but it WAS also a forum clan on a GAMING forum. I hardly see any kind of discussion about video games, or the smack talk involved, or the strategies, or any of that. I remember hearing Eccentric and others talk about WWII Online and reading up about it, just wishing I had enough money to pay for that. Obviously, with the release of that game, I probably would've concerned that money wasted.

I also remember watching games in development with LOTS of [GSF] members...sometimes feeling sad when I couldn't get the game on its release date because of lack of funds while LDL, Eccentric, SJ, Some1, and DarkFlow got it. And I can also remember how much cooler game buying was when it was on the first day and I knew that across the world, [GSF] members were gobbling up copies of the game, itching to get home and dominate with their [GSF] friends.

I can remember SJ pestering me to get the UT2003 demo, and then me pestering him to use Roger Wilco.

Hardly anyone here talks about games it seems like, no one looks into the future of gaming it seems like, and that's why I don't post as often.

As much as you'd like to cover the spam and lack of gaming with the argument of [GSF] being a forum clan, [GSF] IS a forum clan on a GAMING forum. I feel like the emphasis has shifted dramatically, and sometimes disgustingly, away from our original incarnation.

That said I still think [GSF] has some great members, and I kind of thing that [GSF] has moved into its second era or something like that.

I am content to sit in the corner of everything and just watch. I can filter out the crap and enjoy the good parts of [GSF].

Blah, I'm sleepy and I've got to be up in 5 hours. I might post later. Or just lurk more.

Thats one of the things though, you cant just theorise that its changed, its obvious. Even to the level of all three founders of the clan have eventually quit.

Side note, I think i've posted more here since I quit than before. Psychological thing? mayhaps.

What do you like about the way things are?

Not much. [GSF] used to be a pretty good group of people, before the Revote Fiasco happened. At least, that's the way I see things.

Back before the Revote Fiasco, [GSF] seemed to be a hell of a lot more light-hearted, like the 1969 production of The Italian Job. Now, it's more like the 2003 edition, but on steroids and with an unhealthy dose of elitism (with a few exceptions who, at this time, will remain nameless).

What are we doing wrong?

Forgetting your roots; [GSF] wasn't a gaming clan, it was a foruming clan. Granted, you played games too, but the main thing you did was hang out at the GameSpy Forums and post, comment, discuss, and otherwise act intelligent and have generous amounts of fun.

As I recall, [GSF] was a fun group of people. They didn't get along all the time, but then again, who does? It was cheeky, light-hearted, the kind of group I would have been proud to be a part of (had I ever made it through a vote). The current state of [GSF] is even more depressing than mall muzak, and there's no way I'd want to be a part of it now.

What can we do to make things better?

The only thing I can think of it to look over the membership carefully and we3ed out what doesn't fit the original concept on which [GSF] was based.

And most importantly, what do you want [GSF] to be?

What it was originally: a light-hearted group of people who actually had fun, not a group of knee-jerk reactionaries whose vocabulary doesn't appear include the word "fun" or anything akin to that word.

There are some exceptions to this analysis, mind you - those people know who they are.

And Pyronus, I include you in the exceptions, mainly because you had the guts and the respect to tell me why you don't like me to my face, in a manner of speaking.
