THE PLAN CONTINUES
10/14/03 9:53am
It has been just over a week since THE PLAN began. Now I would like to know the answers to some questions.
First of all, the most important one. Is the plan working? Has quality risen? Are the forums more enjoyable now?
Secondly, who is willing to organize games? I'm up for reinstalling Tribes 2, I'd love to scrim with some [GSF] members. A clan of this sort is much more appealing if there is regular or semi-regular gaming; it ensures a sort of solidity and cameraderie. PARENA added a games section to the website, and it would be nice to use it.
Third, what suggestions do you have for the plan? If there's anything at all that should be done, speak up. Every idea is worth posting, if it doesn't work then it might still lead to another, better idea.
I myself think the plan is working like a rudder, steering the mighty ship GSF slowly but steadily. It won't turn around in a week, but I'd like to know if you think the current is changing.

I am up for organizing games. I shall see if I can find Tribes 2 on my way home tonight, UT2k3 and BF are games that many people have as well. I know game threads have been made before, but I am going to go by what is in the games section at the [GSF] home page. Everyone needs to go and update their profiles if you haven't recently. Then I will start individual threads for each game, so that people that aren't [GSF] can contact me for info.
JohnDoe has been bugging me for a game of UT2k3 for a while now so if you can make it tonigh at 8:30 PM Eastern Time, thats GMT -5, ICQ me. 97759647.
Oh and the forums are rocking my chair....
P.S. I almost forgot HL plus Mods so them too...

Though I confess to some initial skepticism, I'm thrilled with the progress of THE PLAN. I've found the forums a bit more interesting since it was instituted, and that's an exciting thing. I hope it continues.
Games organization is a great idea. Although it seems to be a touchy subject (I see people having screaming matches almost constantly over the fact that [GSF] is not a "gaming" clan), I think it's a great way to get people involved, and pull them closer together. I think it'd also be a great way to meet new people who are scoping out the clan, and scope them back out in return. Sure, it shouldn't become a requirement, but it'd be a hell of a lot of fun, and anything that tightens up the community ought to be encouraged.
I played (okay, I'm using the term loosely... technically, I suppose I
attempted
to play) StarCraft a bit with S-P and the guys a long time ago, and it was a LOT of fun. They were really supportive and taught me what I was doing wrong so I could improve my game, and I started getting to know them a bit in the process. That rocked. Shortly before Management shipped off for armification trainin', he took up the torch and tried to decrease my suckitude, at which point I got myself another friend.
I can't encourage people to play games with each other enough. It's an easy medium for us to connect through, and it's an interest we more or less all share. Surely you can find someone here that likes the same game as you.
I've periodically considered trying to get a regular Diablo thing going to feed my own addiction. Without getting into arguments over the repetitiveness and simplicity of the game, I'm getting old and it's a game I can actually play
I'm not much of an organizer, though, so my thoughts ran more or less along the lines of starting to play on a regularly scheduled basis, and simply post a "come one, come all" sort of thing a few days before hand each week. Maybe I'll get off my ass and actually do so.

<orange>Overall, I'm pretty happy with what's going on. Haven't been posting that much really, but I'm drawn towards the /gamespy forums, just to check it out. And I hadn't been in a long time.
Gaming is a Good Thing (TM), definately. If games need to be added to the Games section on the website, just email/PM Garnet or myself. Momentarily, there's plenty of stuff going on in my life so I won't be gaming regularly. But adding things in the website is easier to find time for.
And since I'm in a websity mood anyway, a new suggestion by me is people suggest things that can make the
community feeling
and
interactivity between website and forums
bigger. I don't have any ideas right now, but I'm sure plenty of you are more inventive.

Adding BF 1942 Desert Combat would probably be a good idea. Maybe other mods as well.

Why don't you make a topic on games and such, let people suggest what to add, and maybe talk about improving functionability - maybe to add upcoming practices and matches to the website?

I have been trying to get people gaming for a little bit now ever since Holliday's thread. So far the best way to get people together is through IRC. There are usually a good few people willing to play some rounds of GunBound or UT2K3 in over in #gsf. I encourage more people to just swing by and see if anyone wants to game from time to time. ICQ works well, too. PM me for my ICQ number and if I'm on, that means I am willing to play.

I've enjoyed the forums far more, still not the political topics (without someone as even headed as Musteion and as well versed, it's hard to have any type of serious discussion), but the general atmosphere is somewhat better.
Like you already said, we have to lead by example.
As far as gaming goes: I don't play much right now, besides
AVATAR
and GunBound, I'd be tempted to buy Tribes 2 or UT2k3 if everyone else did.

I reinstalled Tribes2 for a LAN party a few days ago. I'm up for playing around, but we'll have to see if weekly meets work for my schedule.

I've noticed a slight increase in the number of intelligent topics that are active. However I mainly stick to the RPG board these days, so I'm not seeing that much.
Anyway, I'm up for any of these games:
Battle Realms
Civilization 3*
Emperor: Battle for Dune*
GunBound
Heroes 3 (w/expansion)*
Sacrifice
Starcraft (w/expansion)
Startopia
Warcraft III (w/expansion)
You people know my number.

Yeah, it's going good. I was half-expecting it to end with me going "Psh! Nothing's changed!" and running away forever again, until I later returned, but yeah... it's fun.
As for the games, I'll get back to you. Growing up with an always out of date computer didn't exactly train me to play online; I'm more of a Nintendo gamer than I realized. I still like to play PC games, but it's more of a "hey, look what I installed and played during programming class" thing.
