If we have to get every initiate, rule amendment and member up for revote voted on by at least 50% of the clan before they are approved, I don't think anything will ever be achieved. Not at current rates of inactivity, anyway.

Every clan member is expected to vote on such things; those who miss votes repeatedly will be labelled Inactive, and eventually removed from the clan, as has been described in the bylaws. Hopefully that should provide enough of an incentive to get 50% or greater turnout for initiate votes, etc; if it doesn't, I can see that we have a problem.

However, I do not think the solution is to insist that at least 50% of the clan must vote on an issue for the result to be valid. I don't mind if I'm overruled on this one, but my view is that the workings of the clan shouldn't be slowed down or derailed by the apathy of certain members; if more than half of them don't want to vote or don't care enough to vote on various issues, then they don't get to influence the result, but I think the result should still be accepted. Otherwise, we'll never get anything done.

After all, if the result of any vote is accepted, no matter how few people turn out to vote on it, then that just provides another incentive for people to vote on such issues... if you see that an initiate is about to get into the clan, having only recieved two + votes and no - votes (as can happen at the moment), then that would make you pretty keen to vote on him/her yourself!

ADDED: Oh, and lastly, I also believe that there should be no default vote on these issues. Surely that's obvious... if someone doesn't vote, then that shouldn't affect the result either way.

ADDED, again: Hooray, 100 posts! I think most of them were on this thread...

However: should there be a minimum % of votes? Say 60% of the clan has to vote for the voting to be legit?
With a minimum vote requirement and no revote on the whole clan the first month of this rule is going to be pretty rough. I'm all for adding this rule in after we get rid of a lot of the inactives we have at the moment.

With the addition of a minimum voting voting requirement to maintain membership wouldn't this take care of itself after the deadwood is cut?

That was my thinking on the issue. We hold off for one month on voting and do the cut via posting requirements. Then we start taking in new initiates and the voting inactivity rule should take care of the rest.

No big... discussion just seemed to kinda die off, so I wanted to check.

Agreed... that was the essential point of my longish post above. I'd rather not introduce the rule mentioned in #75, for the reasons I mentioned (mainly that inactivity of members who should be voting shouldn't stop someone getting in); and the new inactivity rules should mean that such a requirement is unnecessary anyway.

And as for the inactivity of this thread, don't blame me, as I made the last substantial post... it looks to me as if most, if not all, of the major issues have now been discussed and dealt with. As far as I'm concerned, the Bylaws are as close to perfect as we'll get them; so, is it time to start thinking about carrying out a vote on them, and getting them implemented?

<orange>I'm reluctant when it comes to voting for these bylaws. Sure, everybody should have a say in this. But on the other hand: these are our own forums, the Clan Business forum. If you haven't taken the effort of checking out these important threads, too bad. It sounds strange, 'coz it'd mean six people made these bylaws, but if people don't agree it's their own fault. They had their chance, we're putting in these bylaws and if you don't like them, you should've entered the discussion.

And yes, I'm afraid there will be a big fat 'no' to these bylaws, simply because people didn't take the effort on checking out the threads.</orange>

All we can really do is put it to the clan as a whole and then use a three-fourths majority of total votes for ratification. This will be a "Yea" or "Nay" vote - no wishy-washying with neutral. If there are only six of us who vote on it and we all give it a "yea", then it passes. Not to sound heartless, but honestly if the others cared about the clan and the rules then they'd be in here debating it with the rest of us.

As to the earlier points: requiring a % of the clan for the vote to be valid seems like a moot point to me, as we're making voting mandatory for every member. In theory, we're either going to have everyone voting, or we're going to have a LOT of people going on the inactive list in the first month after we set this in motion...

Latest revision is up. Here's the link, go over it with a fine-toothed comb and see what you think. If everyone is in agreement, I say we put this version to the vote by the clan.

I think it's a scary chance to take, too, because I think the bylaws are sorely needed... but at the same time, there's really no other reasonable approach. You can't expect people to agree to be governed by bylaws that they didn't vote in.

Besides, while I stand firmly behind them, my opinion ultimately doesn't really count. So all the stuff I screamed for really needs to go up for vote.

I can't find anything I don't agree with in the rules.
