I think Peter Molyneux is doing rather well for him self, being a legend and all. I'm not sure about the others though.

The lead designers are generally the company's (co-)owner's, so yeah, they tend to make the most money.
Good luck on becoming one, though.

I know. I think their salaries start out small, but then increase greatly as you climb in the chain of promotion. Wouldn't it be cool to work for Peter Molyneaux? I'd like to ask him a couple questions like: WTF were you thinking when you made B&W2? You had FOUR FREAKING YEARS!!!

All you need is a good idea, alot of programming skills and a ton of time... (just kidding)

It's not as easy as it may sound creating a game, not these days when technology is becoming increasingly complex. You really need to be an expert in one area to be able to make any money.

Not to mention that you need a good publisher, and those are hard to find.

Only if you start your own buisiness though. If you joined lionhead, you wouldn't have to worry about getting a publisher. I expect your salary would be quite low when first joining. Im guessing somewhere around $25,000 a year for starters.

Something like that yeah. Between $20.000 and $25.000 a year. Depending on how good you are and where you join.

Don't you work at Triumph Studios? Do they pay you? Please tell, because i am thinking of becoming a game programmer. I personally want to get involved with Westwood. Only because they made Nox, which is the BEST RPG in the world! Wait, let me refraise that... The best VIDEO GAME in the world!

I do, but I find it incredibly hard to compare (And so do my english co-workers), because of the different taxes. Generally, in America you make a lot more money in hard dollars, but you work more hours and all that health thingamabobj is more expensive as well. Then, it's different for the UK, Triumph Studios is located in the Netherlands, and things work differently here as well.

Thing is, if you're in for the money, forget it. The 'normal' ICT industry pays a lot more.

And oh. Westwood is long gone, its people divided between Petroglyph, EA Pacific and elsewhere.

dang. Well, not many companies last long anyway. The average for a gaming company before it's bought out is probably around 5 years. Then they either break down into sub-companies or are bought out.

But some BIG companies never break up. Like microsoft.
