Well, i have to say, my hunger for a good game has been full since i got black and white 2, BUT... a week or so ago, i went over to a friend's. He had an interesting RPG game on his computer(forget what it was called). I haven't been involved in the RPG genre of gaming for a long time now, and the last game i played in RPG was Renegade, cac. Now my hunger for them has been rekindled, and is burning at a steadily increasing rate each day.
Now, my friends, i want your honest opinion. For the next game i purchase could possibly be influenced by YOU. What is your favorite RPG game? Please suggest any favorites or classics that would be worth while playing.(im interested in the "middle ages" setting for the RPG genre. And please don't recomend it unless it has multiplayer, but you can still list it as a favorite/classic).

I always found Dungeon Siege 1/2 to be simple, straighforward yet very fun.

If you don't mind the 'steep learning curve' (as in, the misnomer that means that something is hard to learn), Neverwinter Nights is pretty good. You could buy NWN1+all the addons for (probably) less than a new game's price, NWN1 has matured enough to actually be (mostly) bug-free and has a pretty active online community.

Since NWN2 hit the stores only this month, it will take a while before the game becomes as enjoyable as NWN. Other than that, it's a great game so far but really different to NWN, but possibly in a good way.

can you do spells in NWN1 or 2? if so, which ones?
I heard about Divine Divinity. Even though it has no multiplayer, it sounds good.

I love Neverwinter Nights 2 - not only can you do you own armor, but your own weapons and potions as well and there skill affinity in crafting, more fine tuned. The Toolset rocks, you can do so much more with this than the old one. The story is actually good and intriguing, so far anyway. You get to meet with old friends from Neverwinter nights 1 (not saying who though). More classes, more skills, more weapons (and old ones from NWN1, just found me an astral blade +1 and I'm only level 5 yet) and you can play tiefling and aasimar. Ok, so the campaign is a bit controlled at times, where you can and can't go and what to explore but that's how the comapign was created and to due to any flaw in the toolset.

Otoh, I loved Divine Divinity and completed it as well as Beyond Divinity. Larian Studios made up for the lack of MP with a story and feeling that kept me interested all the way.

Dungeon Siege 1 and 2 is more fun with a friend though, imho anyway. Not that I didn't like the campaigns but I thought it was funnier to hack 'n slash with a friend than alone.

I've been hooked on World of Warcraft for what feels like ages, and as far as Burning Crusade goes... Let's just say I'll stay hooked a while longer. Flying mounts, blood elves, draenei... I just love it. I have to get me one of those flying mounts, but I'm not level 70 yet. Of course they have bugs to fix, that's why it won't launch until january (though I suspect they'll launch later, definately not sooner).

Haven't tried Everquest or Guild Wars.

In NWN2, do you attack at your own leisure, or do you just click on an enemy and it fights for you? Also, have you heard of Titan Quest? If you have personal experience with it, please tell your opinion.

You have to attack your self, but you can queue up a few actions. It's not like in World of Warcraft where you click a button and watch the action. You'll need to participate and take decisions. You can pause and give orders to your characters, my party atm consists of a tiefling warlock, an elf druid, a tiefling thief, a dwarf warrior and a human mage, though the mage is resting at the inn for now. You can "only" have 4 characters in a party, one being your main.

I haven't been in contact with Titan Quest, sorry.

SWEEET!!! Awesome, i hate games where you click and watch the action. Then it feels like your not playing. The one game i've found to be a flawless fantasy RPG, and my favorite game, would be Nox. I love it so much, but i can't play it because it's not for XP.=(

I don't think ill go with Divine Divinity, because it has no multiplayer.=( Maybe ill get Divine Divinity 2, whenever it comes out. Since you said you have hands on competition instead of "letting your character do the work"*shudders*, i think i might go with NWN2.

NWN2 is so sweet, and when the fan created content starts surfacing there'll be tons of material to have fun with.

In NWN2, are there different servers, or just one big virtual server where everyone spawns for multiplayer?

can you summon beasts in nwn2? And also, in divine divinity, does the game go on and on or is there a short end like B&W2?

[added Nov 14 2006 3:58PM]

I know i've been aking you questions like a detective, but i have a couple last questions.
1. In divine divinity, are there hotkeys for spells?
2. In your honest opinion, if nwn2 didn't have multiplayer, which would be better, Divine divinity, or nwn2?
3. Are there any problems i may encounter with either game? Please describe any possible problems
4. Is divine divinity sold in stores?
Sorry if im being overbearing, but i like to know my facts before buying a game. And i like talking(or typing)to people who've actually played it, instead of reading reveiws.

NWN2, if it handles like NWN1, has different servers and afaik there's no "central hub" och common ground since everyone can start up their own server and host a MP game.

There are several ways to have beasts as a part of your party. Rangers have pets, mages have familiars, warlocks can summon demons and anyone who can use scrolls can summon a host of various critters to their aid.

Divine Divinity has a story with a beginning, a middle and a definate end. There's no user created content and there's just Beyond Divinity to follow up (and BD is not connected to Divine Divinity story-wise). I'm sorry, but I don't remember if there were hotkeys but you can always pause.

If I had to choose a game, I'd take NWN2 regardless of MP. Even if I didn't have Internet I'd take NWN2. It has a replayability value that Divine Divinity doesn't have. What do you do when you've beaten the game, and there's just one way to beat it? NWN2 can be beaten in so many ways, and you have multiple characters and classes to choose from. MP is just a fun bonus once you've beaten the game a trillion time happy

Problems? Both have problems, but I've been lucky enough to encounter very few of them. NWN2 is too young yet and I never found any bugs in DD though I heard there were some. NWN2 will recieve patching and upgrades, more content and adventures while DD won't.

I think you might find DD in sales boxes (you know, take 3 pay for 2), or you could try Larian Studios www.larian.com directly. Maybe they know where it sells.

It's quite alright to ask, we answer what we can happy

very well then. ill look more into nwn2 on the net. Thanks ever so much.

[added Nov 15 2006 1:44PM]

Um, one question, can you turn blood off in nwn2?

[added Nov 15 2006 5:10PM]

I saw a video on nwn2. It said you could build a castle and be a king! Awesome! Im deffinitely going with nwn2. But that doesn't mean this thread has ended. If you have a favorite RPG you'd like to recomend, please do. Ill be referring back to this thread in the future for more ideas.

You can set how graphic you want the violence to be, there's a slider for it in the options menu (possibly advanced options).

[added Nov 18 2006 4:53PM]

In nwn2, exaclty what is the anatomy of combat? Is it like you click-and-slash your enemy till it dies? I can't find that info on the faq's and reveiws.

You select an enemy and click on an attack (melee, ranged or magic). Your charachter will try to execute the attack, the order of who attacks first if there are many attackers will be determined by the D&D-rules (v.3.5 I believe). Those rules covers every aspect of roleplaying and they should be the same even if you pick up a pen and paper Roleplay or NWN2 (should atleast). Anyway, it all happens "behind the scenes" and you dont have to worry about it, attacks of opportunity and coup de grace and such things will be resolved by the computer lucklily (it'd be too much for a gamer to keep track of). All you have to worry about it what to attack with next and what your companions should do (you can controll them too if you like).
