To vote copy the suggestions and submit an email with the subject line Reorganization voting to me, with a yes or no vote just below each proposal in bold. You have until 2:00 pm Saturday afternoon to submit the email. Obviously the one with the most yes votes passes. If you wish to make your votes known, just copy your votes to this topic.

Suggestions that pass that require leaders and team members will be worked out after the voting.

email address: [email protected]

Suggestions
------------------

1. Have two guild practices, one on Sunday and one during the week, this way people who can't come on Sunday can get a chance to play.

2. Setup our own chatroom on Practice day(s) to confirm who shows up.

3. We need to pick the game(s)to play before practice. If people want to play multiple games I or

someone will make a record of who's playing what with whom.

4. Make ICQ manditory, since most of us have it. This way we all have a common instant messenger.

5. Put certain people in charge of a given event...

6. We need aplace where the members can VOTE for what game there is to be played by the clan for te

practice

7. I like GSF's idea behind "Game Masters" one for each game

8. An IRC channel would be nice,,,,,sit back and goof off (Goat Pig and I are almost always

online...becasue of our jobs)

9. make a standard post every week here(Thursday) saying what games will be played in Practise at

Sunday's. All the guild members sould post there opinion, and with a poll we will count what game have

the most votes and we will play that one.

10. Get us an IRC channel on Gamesnet East

11. Start rebuilding us a better webpage with spots for upcoming matches etc. etc.

12. See who wants what teams to be created and have different sections of the webpage for different

teams.

13. leaders for each game, they'll be in charge of finding games, organizeing;

10. Get us an IRC channel on Gamesnet East.

This idea was put up by Duke. My only problem is the IRC network. I think it should be on Austnet -- I know that [GSF]'s IRC chanel is there...

most of this relies on the 3dap guild to be active, over 50% are not. That's why GSF works and we don't

true a lot of us arent active members -- some are sleepers though -- it's just a challenge to get the members we have to participate. Buildings a since of community amoung members is a big driving force behind it

So maybe some inactive members should be given wake up call.

Be careful with the (re)organisation of the guild.
We were never a clan and we (well, most of us) never wanted to be one.

The reason we are so free and easy when it comes to practice is surely what keeps us in the guild in the first place.

By all means encourage more members to game more regularly - but don't regiment it too much, or the genius of the guild will be lost.

I don't even like calling the get togethers practice. We never play against anyone else. And I really don't want to play aganst anyone else. Its really just a players guild where we don't practice, we play along side each other for fun.

Not entirely true. We had a a [3dap] vs everyone else on a CS server this last sunday. It was quite fun until the map changed to a bomb server, and the timer was set too short. Meh, I need dinner.

I'm not trying to get us to be a clan, I'm trying to get more participation and less time wasted chatting in meaningless conversations because people can't decide on what they want to do or are unwilling to speak up! Too many people have been left out of practice because they don't have a game. Why should they waste two hours coming to practice if they can't play a game, why even bother showing up. We have one day a week to play games together, but we waste this.

I'm sorry that change strikes fear in your hearts.

I'm not going to 'vote'; but I will discuss each of these suggestions

Edge Damodred posted:

Suggestions
------------------

1. Have two guild practices, one on Sunday and one during the week, this way people who can't come on Sunday can get a chance to play.

Two 'official' practices would dilute the attendance at each (that doesn't really require explanation, it's pretty obvious)
One set practice is enough for us; especially as there is nothing to stop ad hoc practices occurring when there are 2 or more of us online at the same time... those contact details are on the players page for a reason, after all.

2. Setup our own chatroom on Practice day(s) to confirm who shows up.

Isn't a Roll Call something that Wanker Clans do? And, by definition of the guild, something we steer clear of?
Checking attendance achieves nothing.

3. We need to pick the game(s)to play before practice. If people want to play multiple games I or someone will make a record of who's playing what with whom.

Don't see why we *have* to pick the games pre-practice. We have always had a few suggestions as to what we might be playing on the day - but that's it. We don't decide what we're playing until then and there for a reason - depends who has turned up & what mood we are all in...

4. Make ICQ manditory, since most of us have it. This way we all have a common instant messenger.

Rules (mandatory instructions) to the dark side lead (again with the Wanker Clan motif)

5. Put certain people in charge of a given event...

The only things that need people in charge of them are 'serious' games - ie those of us who fancy competitive playing against a clan, or some such. Given the nature of the guild, these would be rare occurences anyway...

6. We need aplace where the members can VOTE for what game there is to be played by the clan for te practice

how about we just suggest?
And we have a place. You're in it.

7. I like GSF's idea behind "Game Masters" one for each game

I don't. Having ranks etc. is again veering into Wanker Clan territory...

8. An IRC channel would be nice,,,,,sit back and goof off (Goat Pig and I are almost always
online...becasue of our jobs)

GSA not good enough for ya?

9. make a standard post every week here(Thursday) saying what games will be played in Practise at
Sunday's. All the guild members sould post there opinion, and with a poll we will count what game have
the most votes and we will play that one.

What's wrong with deciding on the day?
It's supposed to be fun, spending too much time beforehand defeats the object.

10. Get us an IRC channel on Gamesnet East

see 8

11. Start rebuilding us a better webpage with spots for upcoming matches etc. etc.

The website is perfectly suited to display things like matches (!) and plenty of other things besides. It's our site and can display anything any of you want to say. It just seems you're all a wee bit mute lately...

12. See who wants what teams to be created and have different sections of the webpage for different
teams.

13. leaders for each game, they'll be in charge of finding games, organizeing

Re-arrange the following :
Clan. Wanker.

Yeah, all that sounds pretty negative. I'm not coming down on Edge here, no matter what it may look like - but it seems like you're trying to turn the guild (a group of friends who play games together) into a tightly organised gaming collective (or "Clan of wankers") - that's not what most of us want - at least, that's the whole point of us being a guild in the first place, right?

I really don't see what is wrong with the current 'practice' (for want of a better word) setup -
we turn up on the sunday. We wait for a few (10-15) mins for any latecomers, chatting in the YARN lobby. We decide what games we a)want to play; b)each have available. We play - either all the same game, or splitting up to play different games for a bit.

It's fun, it's quick, it's easy.
It requires a minimum of preparation, and provides the required results (gaming with friends)

To me, getting 'organised' takes a lot of the fun out of it.

Yes, there is a time and a place for organised, regimented practices - if some of us are preparing for competitive play, for example - but not all the time, not as standard, and not for all of us.

Games are fun.
The guild is fun.

That's all I need to know.

I'm totally with Pseudo here. The only reason I joined the guild is because I wanted to play a few games with my fellow forumers every now and then (and a lot more when UT2K3 comes out with noodle hopefully) as I'm far too busy for a Wanker Clan like Pseudo is referring to.

This all seems to organised for my likings. No offense. I really like the laid back approach.

1. Have two guild practices, one on Sunday and one during the week, this way people who can't come on Sunday can get a chance to play.

I'm ok with this one. There are plenty of people who can't seem to be avalable on weekends, and that wouldn't hurt the weekend turnout.

2. Setup our own chatroom on Practice day(s) to confirm who shows up.

I don't like this one, it is un-needed, and too overcomplicated (well, for my little brain)

3. We need to pick the game(s)to play before practice. If people want to play multiple games I or someone will make a record of who's playing what with whom.

I don't have anything against this either, but every time that I have tried to organize things ahead of time they get screwed up in the end anyway (just a little warning there).

4. Make ICQ manditory, since most of us have it. This way we all have a common instant messenger.

I Don't like this either. AIM and ICQ are promenent among us, and I can easily get in touch with everyone over the two.

5. Put certain people in charge of a given event...

Only if we form the copetitive groups that are already in the works (like the CS team I am entering with Duke and Digitus and such)

6. We need aplace where the members can VOTE for what game there is to be played by the clan for the practice

Like Pseudo said, right here is fine.

7. I like GSF's idea behind "Game Masters" one for each game

We don't have enough of a large group to have this, and it is unneeded.

8. An IRC channel would be nice,,,,,sit back and goof off (Goat Pig and I are almost always online...becasue of our jobs)

There are never enough people around at one time to warrent this, and I am not installing the software for IRC on the machine that I use at work.

9. make a standard post every week here(Thursday) saying what games will be played in Practise at Sunday's. All the guild members sould post there opinion, and with a poll we will count what game have the most votes and we will play that one.

This is a duplicate of #6, which I am for, but it never seems to work when tried.

10. Get us an IRC channel on Gamesnet East

Duplicate of #8, and I am still against it.

11. Start rebuilding us a better webpage with spots for upcoming matches etc. etc.

We just need a litle help from everyone to update it more often. Send Pseudo those links.

12. See who wants what teams to be created and have different sections of the webpage for different teams.

Again, send Pseudo that info, and he will gladly put it up on the existing page, and we already are planning teams for UT2003 and CS.

13. leaders for each game, they'll be in charge of finding games, organizeing;

See #12

Well fuck the whole thing then.

I'm sorry to those that actually submitted their votes, but apparently the elders fear any kind of organization. I guess I thought that getting together on Sunday meant we'd actually play games, but I found that it quickly falls into chaos because no one can commit to something.

Well I should have expected as much from these people. The thing that bothers me the most is that those who put effort into the guild, get little credit. I feel sorry for anyone who has tried to organize a simple event in the past and was met with utter failure.

So to all, good-bye, I didn't find what I was looking for here. I formally declare myself no longer a member of this guild. I'll show up from time to time, but if you need help setting things up, and I was offering to help, don't look to me.

Your shortest member,
Edge Damodred
