What's Minus The Bear like? Are they anything like These Arms Are Snakes?

And how is Zozobra's CD? I saw them live a few months back and they were ok. Not bad, but not anything to write home about either.

Not a lot. Where TAAS has that big crunchy sound and crazy vocals, Minus the Bear go more for the intricate guitar licks (Knudson from Botch is in his element with a pedal board about 8 feet wide) and catchy electronic stuff.

The last two Minus the Bear albums are utterly fantastic. Probably a bit better than TAAS's. More accessible, very catchy. A lot of fun.

Zozobra's CD is great fun if you liked the last Cave In album, as it's pretty much an entire album of heavy shit like Trepanning. For me, that's heaven.

Best not to listen to music that sounds like the cookie monster.

Haven't got round to checking out Battles yet, but I've heard great things about them.

As for Panda Bear I finally got round to listening to it the other night. I need a few more listens to judge but it seems like the kind of album I'd be likely to stick on in the back ground, a lot of the songs seem to meander nicely away without ever really building up to anything. Seems pretty decent though.

Very much looking forward to the new Smashing Pumpkins album which I haven't heard anything about but I just heard their new single on the radio so it must be about soon. Also the new album by my new favourite band British Sea Power.

i think dave thorpe described it best. bands are indie if they sound like dinosaur jr. spandeau ballet or any of that crap. fuckin' despise indie in it's purist form. they'll swallow your whole bankroll, make no mistake.

They're a band I'm sure I'll 'get' one day. I refuse to delete The Glow Pt. 2 off my hard drive until I do 'get' it.

Considering the ridiculous amount of stoner, drone and doom metal I listen to, you might be surprised to know that I don't smoke weed.

Good call, that's shitty metal any how. Now, when they sound like a beast from hell, there you go.

The fact that I've only heard of two bands off that list may invalidate my choice, but the best album, for me, without a doubt, is The Crane Wife by the Decemberists. I would never have heard the record without reading some of the things about them here, so thanks to all of you who recommended it.

Thats one of the few new albums i've gotten this year. Lack of money generally hindering my buying of albums.

I've also gotten the new Shins album..and...ermmm...oh yes, Arcade Fire, but that album disappointed me slightly.

I can't believe I forgot From Autumn to Ashes new album, Holding a Wolf by the Ears. That album blew me the hell away... especially after Abandon Your Friends let me down

I don't lack faith. I have faith in friends and family. I just choose not to place it in (what I find to be) an imaginary god in the sky. I have better things to do with my energy (like waste it playing video games and looking at porn) --TheeGoatPig
