Terrorists can suck my . . . 6/30/07 12:17pm
Whether it's down to a new government, something in the water or some kind of other shite like that it seems that terrorists and nutcases have become somewhat active in Britain in the last few days.

First were the attempted car bombings in London then a burning car was driven into Glasgow airport.

Fortunately the bomb attack in London was foiled and it seems no one was hurt in the Glasgow attack other than the perpetrators, who have both been arrested and will hopefully be spending the rest of their lives locked up.

It certainly seems like a terrorist attack. It's still too early to tell whether it's linked to the London attacks, part of a wider plot or a couple of crazies acting on their own.

Anyway it came as a bit of a shock and it's a relief that they were unable to get into the terminal building, it's pretty open once you get through the terminal doors and they would have certainly killed and injured lots of people if they'd driven into and set fire to the main building.

The immediate implications are major disruption to travel and so on with Glasgow airport closed and Edinburgh not allowing vehicles near the airport. As for long term effects the usual British stiff upper lift and "fucking bastards wont screw with my life" attitude will kick in. It's been a bit of a shock to a system since although we all knew terrorist attacks in Scotland were a possibility I don't think we thought it would ever really happen to us. However I don't think we'll be affected too much other than being extra vigilant about possible threats.

However there could be some negative impact for the tourist industry. Americans, after the rest of Britain, are the biggest contributors to this and hopefully their love affair with Scotland (however much it can be slightly irritating!) will not be dented and they wont be afraid to travel here.

Anyway, not much else to say until more is discovered about what happened - however I sincerely doubt the perpetrators will be saying much.

The foiled plot came to light two years after a coordinated attack by suicide bombers on London's transport system killed 52 commuters. It appeared to have similarities to an earlier plot in which an al Qaeda militant planned to blow up gas-filled bombs inside limousines in London. "

Rather scary I'd imagine. The two bombs were loaded with nails to create improvised anti-personnel shrapnel. Would have been really nasty.

Apparently the terrorists aren't very bright, though. If they were, the news would have been much worse. I guess that's something to take comfort in, stupid terrorists.

The car bomb that failed to explode with the nails and fuel was pretty disturbing. There were two thousand people at the targeted club. Its really made me feel like it's only a matter of time before deaths on a far larger scale occur than the attacks on the 7th July. I just hope the country can handle it.

It is pretty worrying obviously. The London cars had the potential to kill many people.

But...

This isn't really organised is it? I cannot believe there is some kind of international terrorist group behind all this. Suicide bombers who are so crap at their jobs they can't even kill themselves, never mind anyone else. As for the ones at Glasgow airport...how bloody awful were they! I could have done a better job. Apart from one setting himself on fire briefly, no-one was actually hurt.

These people are getting inspiration from somewhere, which is the really worrying thing, but these people were amateurs. What will really be scary is when the real people behind all this start to act.

Let's take a look at some of the more recent terror plots...
Plot to blow up planes going between Britain and the USA: FAILED! Casualties: NONE!

Plot to attack major US military base in New Jersey: FAILED! Casualties: NONE!

Plot to blow up JFK International, as well as half of New York, by blowing up gas main: FAILED! Casualties: NONE!

Plot to blow up London and Glasgow: FAILED! Casualties: One idiot terrorist setting himself on FIRE!

As for the last one, I can only imagine how dumb that one guy was. Who the hell goes into an airport intending to kill dozens of people, and ends up setting himself on fire? How dumb do you have to be to accomplish that?

So the rich bastards living on the coast will drown, that's good news for the small investor...who doesn't own beach property...

About people setting themselves on fire, don't think it's that bad of an idea.

Oddly enough when me and my friend decided to go for a walk it was like 100+ degrees... i broke a sweat just stepping off the porch.
