Last Saturday, I bought a 40" Samsung LCD HDTV with my income tax return. This relates to the topic, because as I was setting it all up, and helping my girlfriend assemble the new entertainment center we also got, I was flipping through the channels and happened to catch Weird Al's White and Nerdy as it was starting. There was some show on Fox called "Lacey & Melissa's Video Countdown" on. It was basically two teenage-looking girls introducing videos from what looked like a warehouse. Totally low-budget, public-access-looking stuff, but after the video, they were interviewing Al himself.

I kept watching as we worked on the TV and stuff and they played a bunch of videos off his newest album that I'd never seen (I don't have MTV). At each commercial break they would flash a message across the bottom of the screen saying the first so many people to email them would have a chance to win a copy of Straight Outta Lynwood, so after like the third commercial, I said screw it and went to my computer and emailed them.

Lo and behold, the next day they emailed me back saying I'd won an autographed copy hehe. I have a feeling that I was probably one of only two or three people actually watching the show, so anyone who emailed them probably automatically won.

They shipped it in an envelope with no bubble wrap, and the case was cracked and the CD scratched when it got to me unfortunately (although it was indeed autographed), and I got a couple errors attempting to copy it to my computer hhd, but eventually it worked. There's a DVD on the other side with the whole album in 5.1 Dolby Digital too, but I haven't watched it yet.

Anyhow, after that epic-length story, the CD is pretty damn good, with the weakest songs being Canadian Idiot, I'll Sue Ya, and Polkarama!, and the rest being funny and great. I especially love Pancreas and Confession Part III as well as the title track of course.

It is the frank & cynical recognition of the inevitable limitations of people in general which makes me absolutely indifferent instead of actively hostile toward mankind.

Hard to pin down my exact thoughts. I like it, that's a for sure, just can't say to what degree.

Way better than their last which was weak (a good album, just compared to their previous stuff). Good stuff though, the band obviously considers it another double album like Southern Rock Opera. It's just a CD (but it is the length of two LPs, which still seems to be the defining factor) but the back of the CD case, instead of track numbers, has the tracks listed under "Side 1", "Side 2", "Side 3", and "Side 4". I haven't listened to all the tracks yet, but from what I've heard it's all quality stuff.

Have you heard Devin Townsend's Zoltoid album? I have only heard one song so far, but it is pretty interesting. I'm probably going to have to buy that one.

I haven't, my only exposure to him prior to this was him singing on Ayreon's The Human Equation and his part on that as I remember was pretty small, sadly. I want to get hink Punky Bruster album, the idea behind it sounds so hilarious. As a writer he's good, both musically and lyrically.

Well Zoltoid is about an alien searching the universe for the perfect cup of coffee and destroying all worlds with inferior product (from what I heard, again, I have only heard one song).

I have all of his Strapping Young Lad CDs, a couple of Physicist and one from another project of his. I have also heard a song he recorded with Steve Vai way back in the early 90s. I enjoy most of it too :P
