Just bought The Settlers for 30$, but because of their ridiculous copy protection software, it won't run. So I find a work-around online at a forum that gets me to the virtual activation process (another part of their bull**** copy protection). However, this time they claim that my cd-key is invalid. It isn't as I bought it completely legitimately at a retailer. So I try and contact them, but every time I try and open a question with their technical support, an "unexpected error" occurs.

Can't return the game because it was already opened, only trade it for another copy of the same game (which doesn't help me). Long story short, Ubi screwed me because they feel the need to slap on completely unnecessary anti-piracy software. I have lost all faith in them.

Thanks for reading my flame.

Yes, I've encountered some of the same problems and not just with Ubisoft games I'm afraid. Illegal downloads and no-dvd cracks have solved most of my problems

Ironically, those cracks and illegal downloads are exactly why they put the anti-piracy software on there in the first place.

Ubisoft seriously pissed me off with Splinter Cell Chaos Theory. I don't know why I bought Double Agent still. Maybe I won't buy Convictions at first.

From the recent new stories, it seems Ubisoft is straddling that dangerous line of protecting there IP from pirates while punishing their customers with a privacy system that does not seem to reward those that legally purchase their game.

The hassle of putting up with a company's security system pushes many people to head to the illegal downloads in greater frequency. As my friend once said "if they are going to treat me like a criminal, I may as well act like one".

Reviving 5 month old threads is bad, Mr.Copperfield.

Archaeologist; noun
A subset of the flame warrior type Necromancer, Archaeologist does not go out of his way to revive old threads or to attempt to resuscitate dead conversations, but merely picks on subjects of interest, mostly those within his chosen field. His posts are often decent, sometimes useful and perhaps even constructive. Unfortunately, the subject upon which he has chosen to comment upon has been dead for a considerable amount of time and thus all he manages to really do is arouse the ire of other warriors.

Well fuck me swinging, my bad guys, didn't see the dates. Well, sorry to have attracted the scorn of the forum. This, btw, is a highly accurate description, and not to continue to resuscitate the topic more than it is, I have to ask if there is some database with these terms? It's a brand new world I've stumbled into!!
