Anyone remember me?

I’m doing a multi-forum study on what guns and gun terms are the most (and least) offensive to the general non gun owning population.

In the rare (unless the demographics have shifted on here) event that you own or plan on owning guns, just state that you are.
........................................................................

Which of each brings up more positive (or less negative) connotations.

(1) Semi-Automatic rifle or (2) Self-Loading rifle

(1) Precision Rifle or (2) Sniper Rifle

(1) Gun Owner or (2) Marksman

(1) High capacity magazine or (2) large capacity magazine.

(1) Long arms or (2) Rifles

(1) Gun or (2) Firearm

(1) Pistol or (2) handgun

(1) Suppressor or (2) noise compensator

The following are the more negative of the two terms.

Semi-Automatic Rifle
Sniper Rifle
Marksman
High Capacity Magazine
Rifles
Gun
Pistol
Suppressor

***

Non-Gun owning, but seriously considering getting one in spite of the ridiculous restrictions I'd have to get through.Another note is that I'm a non-American.

None of those carry any particular negative connotations with me, they're just synonyms.

Hey. I remember you. I used to be 'bouncy kangaroo'.

I own several guns including a .22 rifle, .22 revolver, 20 gauge shotgun, and a .357 revolver. The long guns I inherited from my father; the handguns I purchased later on. I haven't fired any of them in years. The only one I currently have ammo for is the .357 handgun. It has been loaded once - last year - when they were searching my neighborhood for a murderer.

For the most part, guns don't carry negative connotations for me, although the term 'sniper rifle' is somewhat provocative.

I don't own any firearms myself, but as with Clam, they don't carry any negative connotations for me either. I was raised around firearms, and I see them as I see any other tool. They are only dangerous in the hands of dangerous people.

Thanks guys for the input. happy  Do the forums still have their own communities or will I not get anymore responses in the main game spy forums? IRT DarrenFox: what country do you live in? IRT OneBigClam: Get some 22 ammo if you can find it (generic ammo is out about everywhere here), I have a bad feeling lead is going to become highly regulated (I was asking at lessquab for lead and they said in a few months they’d have to switch to steel wheel weights by law) I’ve seen .22 ammo that’s made of tin it’s expensive and doesn’t work very good.

Malaysia. I feel that those words are more "militant". They just feel more aggressive and... well... martial. Technical terms scare normals. Names like Marksman and Sniper immediately drive thoughts of crazed gunmen and cold-blodded killers. Stuff like "Firearm" and "Precision Rifle" are quaintly academic and don't elicit such a visceral reaction... from me at least. I know exactly what these things are, but one side just sounds more threatening.

I have a bad feeling lead is going to become highly regulated

That's an end-run on firearms I never considered. Lead shot was outlawed for waterfowl years ago because of the negative environmental impact of lead in the water. I didn't really have a problem with that, even though it rendered my shotgun virtually useless. But I don't buy the need for that regulation anywhere else. Thanks for the tip. I'm going to look into it. Sorry about the political overtones, but that's what happens when you start talking guns.

I have a 5.56 rifle and a .40 Glock back home. I enjoy shooting them at empty beer cans.

357 Mag revolver? yeah I think so. Sometimes we take it to the handgun range. My boyfriend wants me to shoot it for that "just in case" but nah, I dont want anything to do with it

What he said.

Although, I think for the last one, "silencer" is more sinister that the other two.

Oh, I do not own any guns and don't plan on owning any ever either.

Irt DarrenFox: What are the gun laws like in Malaysia, pretty much all I know about Malaysia is they make most Hot_Wheels there. lolIrt OneBigClam:
Lead rifle bullets can’t be used for hunting in the people’s republic of California, because supposedly condors eat it in dead dear and get lead poisoning.
Sure condors don’t live everywhere, but vultures and other raptors do.
That’s fine; I just put that so I’d be less likely to get flamed.

Tough. Very, very tough. You need a permit to own any form of weapon. Applications require you to register your intent with the Regional Head of Police, and fill in your application. Guns are only allowed for Personal Defense, Agriculture, Hunting etc. Weapons must be modified so that they are unable to discharge more than one round per pull of trigger. This includes double-barreled shotguns. Weapons may not be discharged except in approved locations and for approved reasons. Weapons may not be carried on the body except for approved reasons. Annual license fees.A lot of others. Mostly, though, you have to get official approval to own a gun, so you'd need to have an officially recognized reason to own a gun - for example, hunting is only applicable for subsistence farmers and rural inhabitants. Self-Defense is restricted to people with legitimate reason to believe that they would be under personal threat etc.

How many square miles in California vs how many Condors? Another slick environmental end-run on firearms. Not to mention it's another case of legislating for the worst-case scenario, ie. the hunter doesn't get his deer.

Are you after it for protection or as a hobby?

Do you need a permit for a knife or airgun?

Looks into the definition of firearm in your law.
There’s one way you may be able to get around it, you may be able to own muzzle-loading guns without a license (it’s that way in many countries)

Try asking on here http://www.mlaic.org/

But obtaining black powder could be difficult, but you can make it or get it out of some fireworks.

And then for ignition there’s the option of a flintlock (you can own flint everywhere)

Or a percussion lock, you may not be able to buy percussion caps, but you can make them out of pop cans and toy capgun caps with a tool called the tap-o-cap.
..........................

I just looked it up and I read that you get the death penalty if you get caught illegally owning a gun! Is that true?

If so that’s insane all it would do is make anyone with an illegal gun kill instead of giving up because they’d have nothing to lose.

Both, really. I'm a military buff, so owning a WW2 - era bolt-action would be a wet dream. Secondly, the political situation in my country is deteriorating in a sufficiently alarming manner that being armed with a combat-capable weapon is looking like a good idea. At the least, crime is through the roof, so having a weapon handy to ward off potential interlopers again seems like a good idea.I'm sure they'd require you to register a kitchen knife if they could, but I'm aware of no such restrictions.
