So I was going to have this whole contest giveaway thing here in the forums, just because I wanted to. I've been here a long time, and I felt like giving something back to you guys. Sadly, IGN says I can't do it. Too many legal issues. I can't really blame them; they're as much of a victim as we are here. But what I want to know is, when did society become so litigious I can't even give stuff away?

Yeah, I shouldn't have asked permission, either. I was advised against it, in fact. Had I just posted the thing, IGN could have claimed ignorance. But once I asked, they were pretty much required to refuse.

Also, I could have done it off-forum, but I had this whole idea and I didn't want to let it go. Interested contestants would post short essays about why they wanted to win, and then you guys would vote the winners.

However, it is, as they say, moot.

Oh Clam... why did you tell them? Wait a few weeks and then do it anyway, or at least do a slightly modified version.

Yeah, well IGN-Love2Play said no, so now I kinda have to go with that.

But I promise to post pictures when I take that spare (still in the package!) copy of Blood Bowl out into the woods for target practice. grin

Fair enough, but she doesn't really have the authority to say, "No, you're not allowed to send a package to another human being." If you were to say, "Hey, we're gonna play a game, and maybe the winner will have some kind of award..." laugh

I ran some contests on GCF and gave away some little prizes. Skylink and I had talked about doing some great contests and giving away games, but we never did.

Well, that's true. I guess I can't stop people if they feel like writing spontaneous essays about how much they want a copy of Blood Bowl. But let's make this clear: There is NO CONTEST. Writing is its own reward. And if you write something interesting enough, sometimes other people will comment on how much they like your post. This is also spontaneous, and is inspired solely by the genetic imperative to critique. Once in a great while people will send you stuff, but I wouldn't count on that happening here. shame_on_you

Well, I'm disappointed in you guys. Nobody wanted a copy of Blood Bowl, eh? Out of the entire forum, only one person showed the initiative to PM me, and all he wanted was the third place ribbon (It's in the mail, btw, Mr. X).
