[Sticky] Forum Rules, or: We are Locked in a Death Struggle with Idiocy 6/9/03 3:55pm
The time is here. The [GSF] forum has matured to the point that a few rules need to be defined. In order for us all to continue to have a good time here without having to deal with supreme idiocy we need to have a guide that we can look to when questions arise.

Bear in mind that this is not a response to any events here, it is just to prevent things from getting out of hand or this place turning into something that none of us like.



So…here we go.


The main rule is: Don’t be stupid. All of the rules have a common theme, if you use your head, you won’t break any rules.

Language: Profanity isn’t a huge concern for us here but use some common sense. Extreme profanity in topic titles is just stupid since people may be viewing the forums at work or school. Profanity within the thread is not a problem but extreme, pointlessly foul language is.

Spam: off-topic posts that have a point and are funny are fine, just try to not kill a topic with it. Replies that have absolutely no relation to the topic or any replies to the topic are just plain spam and are therefore stupid. Spam can be funny. Sometimes. And only when funny people spam. The rule should be that only funny people can spam when they are spamming in a funny way. And remember there are only three funny people here.


1337: stupid. I am not going edit posts because of it but come on people, you have got to be bored of this by now.

Porn: Again, stupid. OK, we are not going to be strict about posting pics of hot chicks but be forewarned that I am not going to pass up the opportunity to post pics of my liking.

Advertising: Outwar games (and similar), advertising and such, will not be tolerated. Any such topic/post will be closed, the link removed and the topic edited to give a warning. The topic will then stay around for about a week, and then more than likely deleted. Repeated posting of such topics (ie a second topic, so if you make two...) will result in an imediate ban.

That is about it. The moderators here have no desire to enforce rules for no reason. Personally, I am lazy and feel that unless something is actually being disruptive I do not want to edit it. It is important to realize though, that mods have a different perspective on what is disruptive than everyone else does.

I don't think I've seen this rule plainly stated in any other threads concerning the [GSF] forum's rules, but The Pub is open to everyone, correct? As in non-clan forumites as well?

Seems fair enough, not too strict and not too, uh, un-strict. There could be a rule about no (serious) racist/sexist/homophobic/whateverist posts but I think the people here are sensible enough to be un-bigoted.
If stupid people start arriving we may have a problem. But until then let's dance.

No real quibble with any of the rules.

you said something about porn. when was the last time anyone put porn on the boards. on any boards, for that matter.
there is a distinct lacking of idiots on these forums. I don't know, maybe it just is'nt the season (we all know that in the fall of summer, it's that newbie mating season, and only the biggest dork oft them all gets the dorkette).

this is all fine and formal and 'required' rather than realy needed.

Actually, at the main forums we delete pron regularly. Not often but probably at least every week.

As for why this was posted it is simply so that at some point down the road if an issue comes up we have something to base our decisions on so that we can't be accused of enforcing rules unfairly.

There is no min. required posts. You get VIP status by earning it properly. Basically, it's like getting a cookie for good behavior.
