Warning - viewing this topic may cause sever hallucinations 10/14/04 1:52pm
I'm talking about absinthe.

All the legends are true, it does screw with your head, and gives you a headache the morning after, i've tried.

anyone had some interesting experience with absinthe and wants to share?

I tried getting some, since it recently became legalised in holland. then I found out why it was legallised, and the reason is that its not hallucinating anymore, because of genetically engineered ingredients. damnit, whats the point of that?

and, did you see anything interesting?

Um...the usual dizzyness, but add to that an image deformation.

you can't look at something for more than 5 seconds, becuase your eyes and brain start hurting.

oh, and i think it messed up my sense of smell, becuase everything smelled of anise.

Well, they just don't use the right type of wormwood in it.

There's a form of American wormwood that doesn't get you fubared up when you drink it, and it's readily available in the US in homebrew dealers and whatnot.

I heard that the real wormwood was still available in places in Europe, but that could just be rumor.

I heard that the modern version of absinthe (legal) are harmless compared to the original green fairy.

It is, mostly. They've replaced the harmful components (the ones causing the drug-induced hallucinations, that is), effectively turning it into merely a green alcoholic substance. Still, it's green, which has to count for something.

heh, great stuff. i got a small bottle of the old school stuff a year back. it's like adding PCP to a shot of vodka. When everything gets a bit vibrant Funked out from the hallucinogenic substances (thijone? thujone?) in addition to the distortion from the alcohol, it leads to one big, beautiful fucking mess. I don't recall fairies, but i'm sure i saw other shit, like talking toilet bowls or yapping sets of boobs, but the latter are found all the time.

oh yeah, like most hard hitting boozes, it kicks the fuck out of you the morning after.

Actually, since they took out to Tujone, anis now makes up 65% of Absinthes taste, and is the main reason it tastes like mouthwash.

I had half a bottle of it new years eve two years ago. A friend and me wanted to drink it, in the end, he suckered out and I drank it alone, or so it seems. The only reason I drink it is because you can also use it to write stuff on the floor in flames.

The Absinthe they sell you in most parts of the world has a very small dosage of the hallusigen (AKA Thojun) about 0.5% - 1.5%, this is the stuff you and I can get in israel and in most of the more reasonable nations of the world.
what you get, of the orginal "Absinthe feel" is practically nothing, except for the fact that it is still the most alcholic thing that has been ever distilled besides home made rot-gut.
There are two more variants of Absinthe: the first contains about 7% percents Thojun, and, as a person who actually tasted it, I will testify that it causes a rather disturbing loss of the ability to measure size, shape and color, causing the world to look very interesting.
this is availble in Holland, actually, from what I know- and still regarding post #2, I don't know whether it's leagel or not.
the last, the "original" Absinthe is only avaible in andora, wherever the hell that is, and contains about 17% Thojun. this will take you to a trip to wonderland, but I've never feasted my liver on any of that. nor am I sure I want to try.

in short, Absinthe is just a very fast way to get very, very drunk. I'm talking about that more than one glass will get you there, and I weigh about 90 kilos, so that's one mean mofo.

They sell absynthe in my hall bar, so Ive been drinking a lot of it recently, several times in most weeks, although its non hallucinogenic, but then again LSD sorts out my requirements for that so im not too bothered if theyve ripped the heart and soul out of absynthe.

hmz, afaik it was only legalised because it contained hardly any halucinogen anymore. I shall investigate.

Also Andorra is a tiny country in the Pirynee mountains, the border between france and spain.

I dont think its any less controlled in andora than elsewhere though, basically in most EU countries it either has none of the hallucinogen, or a very low controlled amount. Id love to try the proper stuff, which may be available illegally, so if anyone knows of anywhere where its properly legal no matter what the content of the hallucinogen then thatd be usefyl info.

You'd best be served if you drove to some far-eastern european country, like, uh, Ukraine, or eastern Poland or something, and buy some from a farmer somewhere out in the boonies.

Chances of going blind are rather high there though, so force him to try some of it at gunpoint and see if he goes blind.
