Just had a chat with my paleo diet buddy. He's been on it for a few months and both him and his wife are feeling great. Their "chronic" issues like his IBS and her endometriosis-related stuff are really under control. He looks in the best shape I've ever seen him. So, while I still need to figure a plan. My wife and I have decided to try it.

I'm pretty sure some things are going to be hard. I love cheese, bread, beer and sugar a lot. But if this thing makes us feel better, we're going to give it a shot. On the bright side, I've been trying to force myself into thinking about vegetables more creatively and this is a huge step in that direction. Plus, we love meat.

So starting in April, we're going to go for it.

Ah, I was talking to Holliday about this a little while ago - he's on it as well and loves it.

Are you going to be a purist and completely avoid everything that's not included, or are you going to allow yourself a treat once in a while? Like rice?

Here's the thing, I've been trying to read a lot about this diet and I keep finding some things that people are not quite agreeing on like salt, cured hams, bacon, chocolate, coffee and corn tortillas. Hard to chose a right way to play it in this mess. I'm going to try to keep it as purist as possible. Sticking to the best possible options if ever using those "conflicting" items.

The other hard thing to decide is managing the 85/15 rule. We're likely to keep that one to special occasions (like the trip to Mexico City I have booked in may) instead of small "cheats"

I fell off the wagon hard when I hit the second trimester. In fact I landed on another wagon which I then also fell off of. Hard. I'm not into fast food but one Big Mac combo yesterday still left me hungry so I had another Big Mac. That being said I entered this pregnancy under weight and am at a healthy pregnant weight now. All I crave is carbs and protein and sugar so I end up eating a lot of fruit, nuts and pasta. I eat more meat now than I have in years but I generally trust my body to tell me what it needs. Salt=electrolytes (sea salt, not table salt). I avoid processed sugar when possible (chocolate cravings = impossible).

Before pregnancy though it was mostly salads or chopped raw veggies, hummus, yogurt, fruit, granola and extra fiber (flax or chia). Normally I can't eat much carb other than fruit and rice and even rice is only a couple times a week. Everything in moderation though. Digestive enzymes help when eating junk food, like going out for a burger. Shane doesn't eat red meat so I only do if we go out and I'm having a meat attack.

I will never give up Brie. Even if in told its toxic and one bite will kill you. It will be a delicious death. Theend.

I say pregnant chicks get a pass on dieting stuff, that baby knows what it needs and mama should get to indulge herself a while considering all the work she's got ahead of her.

It's been oh so fucking hard. Partly because our life has been so damn disorganized, partly because my job makes it nigh impossible (I have to taste students' food and such). I just walked into a party where the chocolate coated raisins are screaming my name. Fuck!

Raisins should be fine though, right? You just need to ask someone to suck the chocolate off first.
