I'll admit, I haven't seen the movie, but it sounds like the sort of thing that would make me want to buy a gun and shoot random people.

I wrote about gun control stuff & crunched some numbers here.

The stats are interesting, if you like statistics. They do seem to show that in terms of homicides and violent crime, less guns aren't really as important as better gun control.

But fewer guns does result in fewer deaths from rampage (spree) killings.

All nations have crazy people. I think it's probably best to make it quite hard for those crazy people to gain access to deadly weapons that can rapidly kill lots of people.

Need some kind of "Are you crazy?" test.

98.4% of crazies in Australia live in Darwin. We even have a paper-hat wearing dude who goes around making tepees out of broken sticks and rubbish only to have the local council knock them down the following day. And he rebuilds them. Every. Single. Day.
