I just take 4 uniques around the same level and throw them in the combiner...to get something else I can't use.

I've got to try that...

It has never worked well for me. I will usually chuck in some polearms or crappy belts and gloves, and get back an item that my character can't use use like Outlander-only pants.

Not terribly impressed with gem transmuting either. All I want is a blood ember and four tries in they are just giving me crappy chaos embers. I don't need extra potion effectiveness! And my mace doesn't need +1m to ranged weapon range!

You just need to rock the Mace/Pistol build!

Create a dummy character, use the console to spawn a respec potion, put it in your shared stash, log onto to character you want to respec, grab and consume.

The reason for the dummy character is an character that uses certain console commands gets flagged as a cheater and people start bitching if you decide to use that character.

To be perfectly honest the game's really not long enough to warrant a respec potion...unless you just randomly toss points around.

Well that's how I roll, mostly random...

So when am I supposed to start finding Legendary items?

I've just begun a New Game + with my engineer, but is that it, or do I need to play on Elite?

You can find legendaries even before NG+...the drop rate is just really really low.

The nice thing is you can still use The Mapworks so you still have access to an enchanter who enchants upto 3 times(though very expensive), a combiner and a shop that scales with your level.

Yeah, I wasn't going to fork out $30,000 for a third enchantment on my stuff though.

Hm. So two plays through the game and no legendaries found yet...

We need to play together as it increases the drop rate(I think).

I've been playing co-op the whole time on LAN. Does it make a difference doing it online?

Don't think so, again the drop rate is really really low.

Alright, so I got bored with my Engineer and have started an Embermage. For a challenge I am trying to use mostly electric-tree stuff.

So far I am having quite a bit more fun. I think the Embermage is just a more entertaining character to be.
