While we're riding the dreamy pop-rock wave/making Lambchops go broke, I have to give a mention to Weird Dreams:

First album of the year to really have me reaching for "Repeat All", hits that sweet spot Real Estate did with "Days" last year, though the production is a bit... dreamier?

To keep with the good format he's provided, Neon Indian.

I am a big 'album listener'. I generally don't like a band unless I can put one of their albums on repeat and not have to skip songs. This album, Era Extrana, took me a while to warm up to. I think it is some of the near static-y noise songs that broke casual listening at first. But now I am all about it. Polish Girl is still the most approachable and catchy, but the whole thing is worth digesting.

It's good to see Nothing in this thread, now we just need Hellion. My musical tastes are pretty much a combo of theirs, with a bit of BennyBigHair thrown in.

So, lately:

Locatelli
Soilwork
RH Factor

Love Era Extraña! I was just talking about favourite albums for this year with a mate the other day and he mentioned that as he only discovered it last month. I felt bad because I gave him my Top 20 for 2011 at the end of last year and that was like #23 before I cut it down.

I'm also a big "album listener" (in case the album art and the fact that I still do Top 20 lists didn't make that obvious) and this has been a great year for solid end to end listens that grabbed me right away.

Aaand right now I'm on the last track of another 2012 album that I fell hard for, the new one from The Young:

It's a well honed throwback to '70s rock, channeling the sound and the spirit of the era without aping any one artist... opening and closing tracks below, if you dig them you should enjoy the ones in between.

Funny I thought this year had been merely alright. Cleraly not been listening to the right stuff. There has been several good albums but not many that have grabbed me and said "this is one of the best albums of the last few years" (last year it was David Comes to Life) and there's usually at least one of those a year (still plenty time for that though I guess).

As you may have guessed, another album listener here, and yes I'm prone to the good old top 20 list too!

I think for me this year is going to be remembered for going to Bestival and seeing Justice, Sigur Ros and Stevie Wonder. Incredible stuff.

Let's keep this train moving, I'm currently jamming to Stay Calm by Sweet Valley:

This is a short but sweet instrumental album care of Wavves and his bro. Think grainy, sample-based beats filtered through a California Games cartridge.

The track below has an awesome break at the 1 min 45 second mark (and again before the end) that recreates the victory stand music from Excitebike:

M83 - Teen Angst

An old classic but I just saw these guys play last night in Montclair. It was a surprisingly incredible show. He picks a fantastic set list, really adds energy to the production with live instruments and there was also a strange laser handed creepy man puppet.

I almost know where that is (I've been there, I should know where that is, it's less than an hour away from where I live, I think).
