Finished AC3. Fiddled with the MP for about 15 minutes. I'm not huge into MP as a rule though I did play Revelations MP for a while. I'm on to Bioshock 2 now. Got it for $8. I love being a patient gamer sometimes.

Is AssC 3 Multiplayer still digital Hide and Seek?

It was quite fun in Brotherhood, but only for a little while.

Yeah, that's why I've only just played Mass Effect 3 (£20, if you count all the DLC), and Dead Space 2 (£10).

Games should not cost £40.

Although I'm using some of the special offers Amazon are doing at the minute (coupled with the fact that my mrs has recently sold her house, so we're minted), to buy the occasional new game (X-COM and Hitman).

Only because I was really excited about them (and they're still under the all-important '£35' window). Dishonoured is creeping ever cheaper and cheaper as well, which is nice. I'll pick that up soon, I think (it's nearly under £20 already).

PS nobody tell me Hitman is shit, I'm going to pretend it's brilliant even if it isn't.

Finished AC III, my first AC game. Really dug it, especially the setting. I love it when game companies go into under-represented settings, like the Old West and the Civil War. Colonial America is such an awesome setting to run around in. Now going back to play AC II. Controls/combat feels more rudimentary right now, but I've only just started. You know the thing that's surprisingly bugging me? The graphics. I've always firmly been a firm believer of gameplay over graphics, I'm a Dwarf Fortress player for fuck's sake. But going from AC III directly to AC II, there's a sharp difference. The AC II characters have no texture, and their eyes are all bugged-out. I should get used to it, though.

I got as far as making bug porn as the president and lost interest.

Alright, so I have now played through the Path of Exile closed beta once, just on normal difficulty. It's only got two acts, as the third act is in alpha testing, but I believe the plan is to release the game in to open beta once all three acts are complete, and then add a 4th act later on.

It is so much more interesting than Torchlight II that it's not funny. And while the gameplay feels a lot more true to the Diablo II formula, it's still a real breath of fresh air. No money, just bartering with certain item types. Flasks for your potions that do more than heal you or your mana - they can add bonuses, resistances, and the like. Skill gems and the passive skill tree add so many options that no two characters need ever be the same. They're being really creative without deviating from the formula that so many people like.

There are obvious drawbacks to being a non-Blizzard ARPG though, and they all centre around polish. The voice acting ranges from on-par to atmosphere-breakingly-bad, and it's not because of the New Zealander accents breaking through - that I got used to. Some of them really just sound like the guy next door trying to put on a croakier voice than usual. The graphics, while nice, seem oddly demanding and I need to run a lower res to get acceptable frames. Prettier games run better.

It's gonna be free to play though, so while I hope they overcome some of these issues (along with quite a few other bugs which are to be expected), I think it is likely to always remain a bit rough around the edges.

Judging from what I played, it's pretty much the same with new maps and skins. I lost interest fairly quickly.

I did buy ME3 new but I used store credit so didn't technically pay for it. Love that series quite a lot. I came within a hair of buying X-COM during the Amazon sale but didn't pull the trigger. The demo was fun but I figure I can easily wait for the price to drop way down before I pick it up.

Good news!

Hitman is ace.

(and the new features don't break the game horribly. Well, they might if you play it on easy, but who plays Hitman games on easy? No-one, that's who.)

I've actually never played any of the Hitman games. Am playing through MGS Peacewalker atm though. I think I'm going to have to name my next kitty Snake.

I've been doing a lot of train travel to and from Washington DC so I've been playing a lot of Civ 5. It is the perfect travel game. Offline (even though trains have wifi), turn based and entirely engrossing. It is the kind of game where I want the train ride to go longer.
