When they survived having to bulldoze all those copies of E.T. into a landfill in the 80s, I always assumed they could survive anything...

I still have my Atari 2600.

Ahh yes, who could forget E.T, the game that if I recall correctly but probably can't, cost Atari millions in licencing fees ($30 million?), made by one man over a 5 week period. Quite remarkable really.

As for Atari themselves...they'll live.

Atari's been dead for a long while. The entity that is called Atari now is just a French company that bought what was left of the carcass and renamed themselves Atari to in a sad attempt to cash in on the nostalgia market.

I think the real news is about THQ, as that was an actual real company, not just a figment of its own imagination like Atari.

Relic sold to SEGA... will be interesting to see how that goes down. If SEGA backs out, Bethesda has said they'll take it instead. Crytek themselves have picked up the Homefront franchise (for mega cheap, heh). Other vultures have descended on various other IP as everything is dismantled piece by piece.

The best news about SEGA owning Relic is that they now own all the current Games Workshop videogame IPs (Warhammer Online excepted, which isn't really current).

We're already getting a Warhammer: Total War (probably), but owning the 40k IP as well opens up more possibilities for them (in either direction).

I just want a Homeworld 3 and a Freespace 3. All other IPs can take a hike. That's right, all of them. (except for a few which I'll neglect to mention on purpose).

Yes, absolutely. They'd even out-muscle an Alpha Centauri 2 on my wish list. But I know I'm just dreaming.
